Are you getting ready to take your ATV on your next family trip or vacation? Then you’ll need to know how to haul your vehicle! However, if you’ve never traveled with an ATV before, you may not know what tools you need, or how to prepare for the drive. To make sure you’re ready for your upcoming trip, we’ve answered all of your ATV hauling questions below.

Tools

Before you make plans to haul your ATV, you’ll first need to grab a few tools to help you get started. Besides a trailer to haul your ATV with, you’ll also need wheel chocks and tie-downs to keep it in place. If your trailer doesn’t currently have ramps installed, you may need to buy some separately in order to load your vehicle. Finally, don't forget to buy a set of tow chains and some pin locks to ensure your hitch doesn’t release at any point during the trip.

Vehicle

Before you hitch up your trailer and load your ATV, you’ll need to double-check that your tow vehicle is equipped to handle the weight of all your cargo. This means the combined weight of your trailer, ATV, luggage, and passengers will need to be below your vehicle’s gross weight limitation. Thankfully, you can easily find this number by looking it up in your vehicle’s user manual. If you’re not sure how much your ATV or trailer weighs, you can also look this up in each machine’s respective owner’s manual.
