Where To Snowmobile In New York State

Apr. 9 2019 Miscellaneous By ___

Just got a brand-new snowmobile and need a place to take it? Fortunately, you’re in a great state for winter sports activities, as our heavy snowfalls and many mountains make for ideal snowmobiling conditions. A number of different trails exist throughout the state, so your friends here at Outdoor Motor Sports in Amsterdam, NY, have chosen to highlight a few that are worthy of a weekend trip.

Blue Mountain Lake (Indian Lake, NY)

On the northern edge of the West Canada Lake Wilderness area, you’ll find a newer trail system that offers you a 110-mile loop past Racquette Lake and through the Moose River Plains. There are several places you can stop to refuel your sled along the way and plenty of places to eat, too. The Blue Mountain Lake Club, begun in 1953, leases just under 4,000 acres of forested wilderness area east of the lake itself from the Nature Conservancy to provide these trails.

Oak Mountain Ski Center (Speculator, NY)

Just north of Lake Pleasant on the southern edge of the Siamese Ponds Wilderness area is this three-season ski resort that caters to several different winter sports, including snowmobile riding. There are 22 trails that run through the trees and down slopes, so you’ll have gorgeous views of the surrounding forest and lake regions. The Acorn Pub & Eatery is on-site to provide you with fuel after your ride. If you’d like to stay the night, you have plenty of nearby options, including the Lake Pleasant Lodge that offers you direct access to the snowmobile trails.
